Donald E. Fry, M.D. is a Clinical Consultant at MJP Healthcare Innovations, Adjunct Professor of Surgery at Northwestern University, and Professor Emeritus of Surgery at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. At MJP Healthcare Innovations, Dr. Fry provides clinical leadership in incorporating surgical content into the firm’s computerized comprehensive analytic infrastructure to reform healthcare payment.

Dr. Fry was Executive Vice President for Clinical Outcomes Management at MPA Healthcare Solutions, where he provided clinical leadership in analyzing and evaluating clinical performance, in guiding quality improvement, and in creating incentives for coordinated, cost-effective care. He also served as the lead developer of the specialized intervention modules of GlobalPRIME™.

Dr. Fry was Professor and Chairman of Surgery at the University of New Mexico for 16 years. While at the University of New Mexico, he also served as Chief of Surgery and director of the trauma service at the University of New Mexico Hospital. Prior to his appointment at the University of New Mexico, Dr. Fry was a Professor of Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Fry has served on the board of governors of the American College of Surgeons and as President of the Surgical Infection Society, the Shock Society, and the Association of VA Surgeons. He is also a past president of the American College of Surgeons New Mexico Chapter, the Hiram C. Polk Surgical Society, and the Albuquerque Academy of Surgery.

Dr. Fry is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Surgical Infections and has served on the editorial boards of nearly one dozen other journals. He has authored more than 310 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than 140 book chapters, and he has edited 10 books. His special academic interests are in surgical infection, sepsis, other complications of surgical care, in the evaluation and improvement of clinical outcomes, and in methods of realigning physician incentives to foster quality and efficiency in the delivery of care.

Dr. Fry is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and a member of the American Surgical Association. He is past president of the Association of VA Surgeons, the Shock Society, and the Surgical Infection Society of North America. He has received the Career Achievement Award from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Fry received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the Ohio State University. He completed a straight surgical internship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, and a residency in general surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky.
